Your favourite Multimedia CD isn’t switch-accessible, and using a mouse emulator to get at it is just too laborious to be fun. Step forward HotSpots, the exciting on-screen overlay creator that gives fast, efficient ‘point-and-click’ switch access to learning and leisure resources like CDs, websites and e-books.
With HotSpots, you can define a series of ‘spots’ on the screen that the mouse pointer scans. These spots can be placed over any ‘active’ screen area such as website links, navigation menus, print buttons, and so on. The spots can be linked to each other in any order and enhanced with text, symbols and speech. Spots can even load other sets of spots! It’s quick, it’s simple and it’s effective.
It's easy to create your own hotspots sets, or you can use a ready-made one! We’ve designed Hotspots so that creating your own sets is as quick and intuitive as possible. Pictured below is an overlay being created for the popular FreeCell Windows game.

Tailor your hotspots to look just the way you want them. Add borders, sounds, colour, text and symbols, or replace them with an image of your own. You can add auditory speech prompts or attach other sound files. Make them large, small, invisible or appearing only when they are scanned – it’s all possible. And of course you can define what action each hotspot carries out – clicking, double clicking or holding down a mouse button for dragging.
You can create your own hotspot sets, or use any of a growing number of ready-made overlays, some of which are supplied with HotSpots (for software like PowerPoint talking books and the Oxford Reading Tree). You also get a full version of PaintBook included free!
A comprehensive range of single and dual switch scanning options are provided, catering for single-step scanning, autoscanning and basic ‘hold down’ user scanning. They’re backed up by an equally good range of scan times and filter controls.
